Advancing Recovery in Ireland (ARI)

What was ARI?

ARI was a National Mental Health Services initiative that brings together people who provide our services, those who use them and their families and community supports, to work on how we make our mental health services more recovery focused. Nationally, ARI has now merged with the Office for Mental Health Engagement to offer a more connected service within our mental health services.

The Mental Health Engagement and Recovery office (MHER) spreads the word that Recovery – a life worth living, with or without mental health difficulties – is possible for everyone.

The office of Mental Health Engagement and Recovery seeks to ensure that the voice of the service user, Family member and Carer inform the design delivery and evaluation of services through:

  • Developing structures, systems and mechanisms to incorporate Service User, Family Member and Carer experience in service development and improvement in partnership with key stakeholders
  • Empowering Service Users, their families and carers in their own recovery.
  • Promoting partnership between all stakeholders to enable practices which deliver better recovery outcomes
  • Continuing to develop structures and programmes to make recovery education accessible to all.
  • Continuing to identify and promote national and international best practice and innovation in recovery and engagement.
  • communicating effectively with all stakeholders

Mental Health Recovery means – a life worth living, with or without mental health difficulties – is possible for everyone.

The Mental Health Engagement and Recovery Office supports local mental health services in bringing 'Recovery Principles’ into the heart of how we work collaboratively.

People who use our services have immense knowledge about their own situation; their strengths, their values and what works best for them. In mental health we’ve found that when mental health professionals value and use this knowledge, and work in partnership with them and those that care for them, that then the results tend to be better for everyone.
