Introduction

The Office of the Nursing and Midwifery Services Director was established in 2006. Its primary focus is the strategic development of Nursing and Midwifery to provide optimum patient centred care. The main priority of the Office of the Nursing and Midwifery Services Director is to provide leadership, support excellence and innovation and build capacity in nursing and midwifery to enhance patient care and service delivery.

The office of the Nursing and Midwifery Services Director (ONMSD) consists of a team of dedicated nurses, midwives and administrators led by Nursing and Midwifery Services Director-Michael Shannon. The corporate office is based in Dr. Steevens Hospital Dublin. There are four adminstrative areas managed by four Area Directors There are eight Directors of Nursing and Midwifery Planning and Development Units (two in each administrative area) and twenty Centres of Nursing/Midwifery/Childrens Nurse Education across the country.
