National Policy for Nurse Medicinal Product Prescribing in the Intellectual Disability Sector
This policy document, updated Dec 2010 will support nurse medicinal product prescribing for people with intellectual disability. It reflects the values set out in the principles of Inclusion, Choice, Dignity, Respite, Participation and Contribution. The policy is rooted in the perspective that people with intellectual disability have the right to live full and active lives, and be active participating members of their own communities.
The prescribing site co-ordinators from each of the participating organisations were instrumental in developing and reviewing this policy which will prove a very valuable resource for other organisations who are considering the introduction of nurse medicinal product prescribing for people with intellectual disability in the future. Acknowledgement is extended to the sites introducing nurse medicinal product prescribing in intellectual disability services for their contribution, ongoing support and commitment to nurse medicinal product prescribing and the improvement of services for people with intellectual disability.
