The Health Intelligence team aims to provide strategic leadership and co-ordination for transferring knowledge and information across the HSE with a particular emphasis on supporting best quality in health care provision and population health improvement.

The work of the team brings a heightened specialisation in regard to the analysis of health information, a refreshed approach to using the evidence base of health, and support and leadership in research and development.

The Health Intelligence team is already uniquely positioned as a knowledge broker for the HSE, through its various products and services offered. This role allows for a better interface of policy and service provision and strengthens decision making through the application of evidence and the development of innovative and robust data analysis.

Health Intelligence HSE customers have already included:

Quality & Clinical Care, Corporate Planning and Corporate Performance and Integrated Services.
The National Finance Directorate, and Human Resources Directorate.
Corporate Services/CEO's office.

External customers and relationships include:

Health Research Board.
Department of Health and Children.
A number of the Dublin Academic Teaching Hospitals.
A number of third level academic institutions, WHO etc.
Partnerships and co-operative arrangements in place with inter-Government agencies such as the RSA, CSO, ComReg and the Gardai.

The Health Intelligence function has been actively involved in a number of hospital reviews and its products have been used by the consultancy companies in their final reports.

Some of these projects include: Bed Utilization Study, Dublin Maternity Hospital review, North Eastern Hospitals review and the National Wound Guidelines project.

Through the development of Health Atlas Ireland, Population FactFile and this Health Intelligence website (www.healthintelligence.ie) a large amount of information and knowledge has been and continues to be provided to many stakeholders within the HSE. This involves collating information from numerous sources and presenting the results in useful ways to HSE stakeholders.
