National Approach to Treating Tobacco as a Care Issue Seminar

The 'National Approach to Treating Tobacco as a Care Issue' seminar was a joint initiative by IHPH Network and Tobacco Control Framework Implementation Group. The objective of the seminar was to promote and assist in the delivery of the 2013 National Service Plan & Operational Plan actions, in particular the roll-out of tobacco free campus policy for each service/setting. The seminar was very insightful in highlighting key successes, the broad range of supports available and demonstrating where we need to go from here. It is hoped that another step has been taken in developing a more informed, integrated stakeholder and health service response to tobacco dependence in Ireland.

The seminar chaired by Dr Patrick Doorley, saw presentations on the HSE Tobacco Framework, ENSH standards, legislation both national and international, the QUIT campaign as well as presentations from our stakeholders including the Department of Health, Irish Dental Association, ASH, Irish Congress of General Practitioners, Irish Dental Hospital, Irish Heart Foundation and Irish Cancer Society to name a few. (Please see related documents for presentations).

The TCFIG and IHPH would like to thank all who attended the seminar and we look forward to working with them in the months ahead.
