The Clinical Lead for the National Clinical Programme for Pathology is Dr Gerard Boran and the Programme Manager is Ms Kellie Myers.
There are two Working Groups:
- The National Point of Care Testing Consultative Group chaired by Dr. Gerard Boran, is a multidisciplinary group established to address Principle 10 (Regulated Point of Care testing) of the Ten Principles for Laboratory Modernisationframework.
- A National Laboratory Handbook Sub Group was established in 2013 to develop guidelines for common laboratory diagnostic tests considering; indication, interpretation, demand management, external quality assurance (EQA). A key aim of this work is to rationalise referrals ensure that testing is appropriate and eliminating waste.
The Working Groups meet/teleconference at least three times per year.
The Clinical Advisory Group for the programme was established in 2011 to provide clinical advice and guidance to the programme.
The Chairperson is Dr Brian Hennessey and membership includes members of the Irish Society of Surgical Pathology, the Irish Haematology Society, the Irish Society of Clinical Microbiologists, the Chemical Pathologists Association at least one Fellow from each pathology subspecialty. The Clinical Advisory Group reports to the Dean of the Faculty of Pathology, RCPI.
