CHRODIS – The European Joint Action on Chronic Disease and Promoting Healthy Ageing across the Life Cycle

Chrodis

What is CHRODIS?

JA-CHRODIS is a European collaboration that brings together over 60 associated and collaborating partners from national and regional departments of health and research institutions, from 26 Member States. These partners work together to identify, validate, exchange and disseminate good practice on chronic diseases and healthy ageing across the life cycle in EU Member States and to facilitate its uptake across local, regional and national borders. The focus is health promotion and primary prevention as well as the management of diabetes and multi-morbid chronic conditions. One of the key deliverables is a Platform for Knowledge Exchange, which will include both an online help-desk for policy makers and a clearinghouse providing an up to data repository of best practices and the best knowledge on chronic disease programmes and policies. JA-CHRODIS is a three-year initiative (2014-2017) led by the Institute of Health Carlos III and is being funded by the European Commission and the participating parties.

JA-CHRODIS at a glance – find out the most important facts about the Joint Action. How is Ireland involved?

The Health Service Executive and the Instituteof Public Health in Ireland are representing Ireland in work package five. In addition, the European Institute of Women’s Health, which is based in Dublin, is supporting several work packages.

What has happened so far?

The Irish partners have submitted two country reports. These reports describe elements of the policies, services and programmes relevant to the prevention of chronic disease in Ireland. The country reports were based on structured engagement with key national leaders in chronic disease prevention as well as reviews of relevant policies, service plans and evaluations.

The Irish partners hosted a stakeholder workshop in June 2014 to inform relevant Irish stakeholders of our involvement in the joint action and seek their support in developing quality outputs. We have been actively promoting knowledge exchange of the project outputs.

We have contributed to a Delphi process seeking our views on what might form criteria for good practice in chronic disease prevention. Our next task is to present a number of examples of good practice from Ireland to the CHRODIS project as well as participate in site visits and facilitated inter-country discussions.
