Waterford Regional Hospital is built on the site of the former Ardkeen Hospital. The new hospital was incrementally constructed between 1988 and the mid 1990’s. The current layout consists of one main building and seven smaller external (former Ardkeen hospital) buildings.
The main building accommodates all the wards, the Regional Department of Laboratory Medicine, diagnostic services including the Dept of Radiology, Cardiac Diagnostic Dept and Endoscopy Dept, 10 outpatient suites, the Pharmacy Dept, catering services, the regional Laundry service, Medical Records Dept, the Hospital Chapel and the administration section. A spacious main foyer has a restaurant and a shop.
We are one of the eight cancer centres of the HSE National Cancer Control Programme (NCCP) and one of two centres in the HSE South Network. We provide cancer services chiefly to people who live in Waterford, Wexford, Kilkenny and South Tipperary.
Our cancer services include tests to diagnose cancer, surgical cancer treatments, oncology consultations, chemotherapy and radiotherapy treatments (St Lukes Hospital, Dublin, Whitfield Hospital, Waterford and Cork University Hospital).
