Hang on - I paid more than this price at the Pharmacy?

The prices listed here are HSE prices - what we call reimbursement prices. This is the price that the HSE pays the pharmacist for all medicines you get under state drug schemes.  On top of this basic price - you will pay some extra.

  • If you have a medical card, you just pay the prescription charge. The HSE pays the pharmacy for your medicine.
  • If you have a Drug Payment Scheme Card, you pay the basic price, plus a dispensing fee of €3.50 to €5 up to the threshold of €144 per month.
  • Also, for the medicines listed here, if you prefer to use a medicine whose price is OVER the reference price, you'll pay the pharmacist the difference between the reference price and the product price.
