Hearing Tests

The primary focus of the Paediatric Audiology Service (hearing tests) is to detect children who have permanent hearing loss. All children suspected of having a hearing loss are given a hearing test, suited to their developmental age. If a loss is detected, their parents/guardians are given a diagnosis as to the type and severity of the hearing loss i.e. temporary (conductive) or permanent (sensorineural).  Management of cases may involve giving advice and information, onward referral and provision of hearing aids.
