The Accreditation/Quality Department co-ordinates and supports all Quality activity across the hospital in accordance with National best practice.

The Department

The role and function of the Accreditation/Quality Department is:

• To identify and implement operational processes to the standards of best practice in order to optimise use of resources and to ensure compliance with statutory requirements.
• To work with senior hospital management and staff to progress the quality improvement plans identified though the Accreditation Programme and via HSE, HIQA.
• To provide regular reports to HMC, HMOT and other Committee’s on the performance of the Quality and Safety Improvement Programme.
• To work with staff from all disciplines in the hospital assisting and advising them on strategic developments within their departments in order to ensure that compliance with HIQA Standards and other National HSE standards are obtained and maintained.
• To advise and support staff in relation to the development of policies, procedures, guidelines, Key performance indicators and the evaluation process.
• To co-ordinate, facilitate and provide training/administrative support with the ongoing implementation and monitoring of Q Pulse (Quality Management Information System) at SGH.
• To maintain excellent communication channels with all levels of staff in order to promote and develop the delivery of a high standard of quality care throughout the organisation.
• To facilitate and ensure consumer input through a variety of mechanisms e.g. consumer surveys, comment cards etc.
• To maintain throughout the Hospital an awareness of the primacy of the patient in relation to all Hospital activities.
