District Hospitals and Community Nursing Units in Mayo

Ballina District Hospital 

Ballina District Hospital is a 62 bed Hospital and provides step down facilities for patients discharged from Mayo General Hospital who require a further period of convalescence before being discharged home or being identified as requiring a Long Stay Bed in a Community Nursing Unit.  Also receives direct admissions from G.P.’s in the catchment area of the Hospital.

Out-Patient Clinics are provided such as Surgical, Medical, Paediatric and Orthopaedic by visiting Consultants.  G.P.’s may refer patients for Admission, Physiotherapy or X-Ray.

Swinford District Hospital 

Swinford District Hospital is a 40 bed Hospital and provides step down facilities for patients discharged from Mayo General Hospital who require a further period of convalescence before being discharged home or being identified as requiring a Long Stay Bed in a Community Nursing Unit.

Referrals for admission can also come from the GP.  In-patient and Out-Patient Physiotherapy are also provided.  A designated Day Care Room is also available and has an average of 40 attendees per day.

Belmullet Community Hospital 

Belmullet Community Hospital has 39 step-down/convalescence beds and in Aras Deirbhle there are 37 Long Stay Beds.  Also receives direct admissions from the G.P.’s in the catchment area of the hospital.  Paediatric and Diabetic Out-Patients are held by visiting Consultants.  In-patient and Out-Patient Physiotherapy are also provided.  There is also an X-Ray Department on site.

D’Alton Community Nursing Unit 

The D’Alton CNU is a Long Stay Residential Unit for the Elderly and has 39 beds. 

St. Augustine’s Community Nursing Unit 

St. Augustine’s CNU is a Long Stay Residential Unit for the Elderly and has 39 beds.

McBride Community Nursing Unit

McBride CNU is a Long Stay Residential Unit for the Elderly and has 39 beds.

St. Fionnan’s Community Nursing Unit 

St Fionnan’s CNU is a Long Stay Residential Unit for the Elderly and has 32 beds.

Sacred Heart Hospital 

The Sacred Heart Hospital has 166 beds, 36 of which are allocated to Rehabilitation patients with the remainder being for Long Stay Residential Care.

Physiotherapy and Occupational Therapy is provided to In-Patients and Out-Patients.

There is a designated Day Care Centre which caters for an average of 40 patients per day.
