Travel 2 Care

Travel2Care is a transportation assistance fund which has been made available by the National Cancer Control Programme (NCCP) to patients travelling to the designated cancer care centres or approved satellite centre and is administered by the Irish Cancer Society.

The Travel2Care scheme provides funding to patients to help towards the costs of public transport such as trains, buses or other private transport costs, or petrol and parking. Patients can put the funding received towards the transportation they are using to get to hospital.

The Travel2Care scheme is being implemented on a phased basis consistent with the transfer of cancer services to the designated cancer centres and satellite centre.

Patients are eligible to apply for Travel2Care if they:

  • Are an Irish citizen or live permanently in Ireland.
  • Are travelling for assessment, diagnosis and/or surgery/treatment at a designated centre or approved satellite centre. It also covers travel to a regional hospital for treatment once diagnosed in a designated centre.
  • Have not qualified for or cannot avail of other schemes, such as transport funded by the HSE, or voluntary transport initiatives.
  • Have a genuine financial difficulty in meeting the costs of travelling to their appointment(s).
  • Are living more than 30km/19 miles from the designated cancer centre.
  • Are not travelling to their local hospital, i.e. the patient is disadvantaged by travelling to a designated centre or satellite centre.

Visit the Irish Cancer Society for more details on how to apply.
