1 Rules of entry
HSE Elder Abuse Open Your Eyes – Open your Lens Competition
- To enter, you must be resident in the Republic of Ireland.
- You must adhere to the competition terms and conditions (listed below).
- You may enter one video in either of the two categories: Educational Institute or General Public. The video must be a minimum of 30 seconds and a maximum of 60 seconds.
- Your entry should be submitted via e-mail as a YouTube listing. Entries should be uploaded to YouTube. You can find a demonstration video on how to upload a YouTube entry on the Health Service Executive website www.hse.ie or you can download written instructions from the same site.
- You should have obtained written permission from any participants who are filmed.
- You should print the following information (IN BLOCK CAPITALS) on your e-mail entry to openyoureyes@hse.ie
- Name, home address, home telephone number
- Category and title of entry.
- School / College name, school / college address, school / college telephone number and teacher’s / lecturer’s name if entering the student category. Signature of your parent, teacher or guardian if under 18.
- Community Group name, address (if entering as a community group) or individual name and address (if entering as an individual).
7 The closing date for entries to the Open Your Eyes – Open Your Lens competition is Friday 29th October 2010. This date is final.
If your entry is received after this date it will not be submitted to the judges.
8 The judging process is carried out by a panel of independent judges. The decision of the Chairman of the Judging Panel is final and
no correspondence will be entered into regarding that decision.
9 All film entries together with the creators’ details (name, educational institution or town or community group if applicable) may be
used in publicity campaigns including campaigns run by HSE partners e.g Active retirement Ireland, Age Action, Alzheimer Society of
Ireland, Carer’s Association etc. Photographs of the winners together with their names and locations may be used in publicity
campaigns

Judging Criteria
- How effective is the short film at incorporating the theme of highlighting Elder Abuse?
- Accuracy – is the film based on accurate facts and information?
- Creativity and originality: how unique and innovative are the ideas presented in the short film?
- Production quality: is the film well produced? Are the images crisp and dialogue (if any) clear?
- Appropriateness: is the short film appropriate to be placed on the HSE website and the websites of Age Action, Carers Association, Alzheimers Association etc.
The following content is considered inappropriate:
- Violent or sexual images
- Profanity or insults
- Direct attacks on older people
- Any other issues that the HSE might consider inappropriate that have not been anticipated at this time.
Terms and Conditions
1. Employees of the Health Service Executive Elder Abuse services (including members of the National Committee) may not enter the Competition.
2. By entering the Competition you are accepting these terms and conditions and also YouTube's terms of use at http://www.youtube.com/t/terms
3. If you have any questions on how to enter, please e-mail us at openyoureyes@hse.ie with “Elder Abuse Prevention YouTube Competition" in the subject line.
4. When sending in your Competition entry, you must provide your name, age, date of birth, address, telephone number and e-mail address. We will only use this information in relation to the Competition (including checking your eligibility to enter it and announcing the winners) and will not use it for any other purposes whatsoever. We will not keep this information for longer than is necessary for the operation of the Competition.
5. Your film must not have been broadcast before in any media. You may only send one entry to the Competition. Entries on behalf of another person will not be accepted.
6. Your film must be your own work, must not be copied, must not contain any third party materials and/or content that you do not have permission to use and must not otherwise be obscene, defamatory or in breach of any applicable legislation or regulations. If we have reason to believe your film is not your own work or otherwise breaches this provision, then we may not consider it and/or we reserve the right to eliminate your entry.
7. We must receive your entry to the Competition by 11:59 pm on 29th October 2010. Entries received after this closing date will not be considered.
8. When choosing the winning entries, the judges will be looking for originality, innovation and creativity as well as basic film-making ability. The judges' decision will be made on or before 30th November 2010. The decision is final and no correspondence will be entered into.
Publishing the winning entry
9. The winning entries will be shown on the HSE website at www.hse.ie from 1st December 2010 or (if the HSE needs to delay this publication for any reason) at a date not later than 31st December 2010.
10.You own the copyright to your Competition entry as its author. However, by submitting an entry to the Competition, you give the HSE and associated competition agencies (Age Action, Alzheimer’s Association, Carers Association, Active Retirement Ireland and Department of Health and Children) permission for your entry to be broadcast on the HSE website, the YouTube website and grant the HSE a non-exclusive, royalty-free, worldwide licence to republish your Competition entry in electronic format for purposes connected with the Competition; and the right to use your name, age and town or city of residence for the sole purpose of identifying you as the author of your entry.
11.There are two categories; Educational Institute (open to current students in either second or third level institutions) and General Public. The winner of each category will receive a cash prize of €1,000; in addition there will be a second prize of €500 and a third prize of €250 in each category.
12.The winner of each category will be notified either by email, telephone or post on or before 30th November 2010 (if the HSE needs to delay this publication for any reason) at a date not later than 31st December 2010.
13.The prizes cannot be exchanged or transferred by you and you must pay all other costs associated with the prize and not specifically included in the prize (travel costs for press launch). Details of the winners can be obtained by logging on to www.hse.ie
14.The HSE accepts no responsibility for any damage, loss, liabilities, injury or disappointment incurred or suffered by you as a result of entering the Competition or accepting the prize. The HSE further disclaims liability for any injury or damage to you or any other person's computer relating to or resulting from participation in or downloading any materials in connection with the Competition.
