Outreach & Training

Outreach is an important aspect of GMHS service delivery, as it includes peer advice, and is also important in reaching those marginalised within the community.

Outreach Workers also provide support and advice to men on issues from sexual health screenings to isolation and relationship problems. Contact can be made with the outreach workers by telephone, email or by calling in.

Outreach work on the commercial gay scene takes place alongside Johnny (gay peer action group).  Distribution of “Rubber Up” safer sex packs (condoms and lubricant) to gay and bisexual men.  Maintaining up-to-date information on sexual health in venues and also advertise the services.

Outreach workers can provide training and facilitation of  workshops targeted at gay community groups and any agency, organisation or group in contact with gay or bisexual men (see Training).

Counselling Service,
Outhouse, LGBT Community Centre, 105 Capel Street, Dublin 1.
Tel: +353 1 873 4952 E-mail: gmhpoutreach@eircom.net

Counselling services at Outhouse are free, friendly and confidential. First introduced in 2001, the counselling service has been increasingly in demand, resulting in a waiting time for services.

All individuals requesting counselling are seen first for one assessment to determine the type of involvement needed. In some cases persons are referred to other counsellors or services.

The counseling service, primarily for gay and bisexual men is also available to lesbian and bisexual women and transgender persons. Generally clients are seen at Outhouse or on certain days at Baggot St Hospital.
