Ireland's Health Service has moved up 15 places in the Euro Health Consumer Index (ECHI) since the HSE's health transformation programme started in 2006. In 2006 Ireland's health service was ranked 28th out of 29 European countries surveyed. In the Euro Health Consumer Index Report published today Ireland is ranked 13th out of 33 other European health services. Following investigations by HSE West of flu-like illness among pupils in a secondary school in Co. Galway, the HSE has confirmed that the current outbreak of illness is due in the most part to pandemic (H1N1) influenza. A number of pupils presented with fever, cough, sore throat, headache, runny or stuffy nose, body aches and fatigue. In all cases the illness was mild.
