Fire Safety for your Home

Each year in Ireland, unfortunately, approx 46 people die in fires.

Awareness and knowledge of fire safety and fire prevention is of utmost importance for each and everyone of us.

The ‘Fire Safety for your Home’ booklet has been revised and reproduced by the HSE, DoEH&LG and the NIPC and is now available.

The aim of the booklet is to inform, guide and support the general public and families in the 4 golden rules of Fire Safety in the home that will promote fire safety in the home and help prevent the incidence of home fires.

The 4 Golden Rules are:

  • Install working smoke alarms and test them regularly
  • Make a fire escape plan and practice it often
  • Check for fire dangers in your home and correct them
  • Carry out a ‘last thing at night routine’

The 4 golden rules are extended on throughout the booklet.

The booklet also contains valuable information such as the emergency phone numbers and the key points on what to do in the event of a fire. These key points cover the following actions:

1.     Get out

2.     Get the Fire Service out

3.     Stay out

The booklet is free of charge and our aim is to get a copy of this booklet out to every household in the country and also to promote people to read it regularly.
