CUMH  replaces the former Erinville, St Finbarr's and the private Bon Secours maternity hospital on the site at CUH. 7,500 births are expected at the hospital every year, making it the third largest maternity hospital in the country. Maternity, neonatal and gynaecological services are provided for women and their families, and the hospital has over 140 obstetric beds, 36 single wards, 36 double wards, 8 four-bed wards and a 50-cot neonatal intensive care and special care unit.
