The speech & Language Therapy department aims to assist clients and patients to achieve their speech, language and swallowing potential and support families in the areas of speech & language therapy
Where are we?
Main office (AH and PCCC combined) in unit 3 on the grounds of WRH with a non-clinical office in Old school of Nursing
What do we do?
Each practitioner is likely to be involved in many of the following
- Health promotion work with identified client groups
- prevention work
- assessment and diagnosis of speech, language, communication and swallowing disorders
- intervention focusing on the individual with communication and/or eating and drinking difficulties
- individual 1:1 therapy
- group therapy
- advising and counseling carers
- advocacy
- professional advice
- learning and education
- training and assessment of SLT students
- training of volunteers and members of the team
- teaching

How to access this service
Within the hospital setting, consultant referral is required. For community services any direct referral or referral from a professional will be accepted
Our Aim
To improve clients health and wellbeing including independence as well as improving their participation in family, social, occupational and educational activities
- Reduce the need from surgical intervention and poor nutrition in the case of people with swallowing difficulties
- reduce the negative effects of communication difficulties
- reduced risk of surgical intervention by maintaining healthy voice mechanisms
- reduced risk of social isolation
- prevention of certain speech, language and communication disorders
