Mission Statement
The Technical Services Department maintains the physical environment and provides indirect support to WaterfordRegionalHospitalin reaching its goal in providing quality patient care, through the best use of resources, and in accordance with the highest standards.
Technical Services remit includes Facilities Maintenance, Grounds & Waste management, building and constructions Services, plant maintenance, and related administrative services.
Where are we?
The Technical Service Department is located on the grounds of WRH complex, and external to the main Hospital block. TheTSD compound is within approximately 100 m of the Mortuary (Maypark Lane is directly behind the TSD compound)
What do we do?
The Technical Services Department (in conjunction with equipment end users) is responsible for the maintenance of all facilities & utility services i.e. water, heat, lighting, hvac, and certain portable equipment as identified in the HSE-SE asset register, in accordance with local requirements, relevant HTM, ETCI Regulations, and best practice.
This activity includes:
- Contributing to the initial installation of such equipment
- Demonstration of equipment use, where applicable
- Commissioning and testing of new equipment, where applicable
- Establishing agreed maintenance schedules and liaising with specialist Contractors to ensure adherence to schedule and service level agreed
- Maintaining records of service, where applicable
- Final decommissioning and disposal of equipment
Who uses our service?
Our Service is essentially a “support service” to indirectly facilitate the provision of Patient care, by maintaining the facility and its associated equipment to the highest standards. In this regard we view all occupants and associated services operating within the complex as being our “customer” and we always welcome feedback on how to improve our service

Normally the service is accessed via the “helpdesk”, Waterford Regional Hospital (contact details below)
Note Maintenance Requests are noramlly initiated internally by hospital staff
Our Aim
Building Services / Facilities- The over arching aim is to provide a clean, safe, comfortable, pleasant environment to the highest possible standards. The Technical Services Department is, on an ongoing basis, developing a work plan to provide a more efficient schedule of works and a systematic planned preventative maintenance schedule for all relevant plant and equipment, that meets all the needs of our Customers
Opening Hours
8.00 – 5.00 Monday to Friday
A shift is operated that provides scaled down electrical and Plumbing Services up to 9pm Mon – thurs and 8.00pm on Friday
Call out Cover in the event of an emergency is 24/7 and 52 weeks of the year and covers all HSEbuildings in Waterford area and County

maintenance requests should always be made to Telephone ext. "2313" (or 051 842313 from an external site)…Please leave a clear message on the Answer Machine.
This number should be the only one used to request maintenance services in the first instance.
"Urgent”
maintenance requests that arise during “office hours” period’s i.e.
9am- 1pm and 2-5pm, Mon-Thurs,
9am-1pm and 2-4pm Friday
should be made to Telephone ext. "2424" (or 051 842424 from an external site).
NOTE: THIS IS NOT A "24 HOUR" CONTACT NUMBER
Urgent maintenance requests "outside" of the periods of times mentioned in point 2 i.e. evenings times, weekends, bank holidays should be made to the Hospital Switch Board, W.R.H. Telephone ext. "0" (or 051-848000 from an external site) who will make contact as appropriate with the relevant "SHIFT" Electrician/ Plumber , or other relevant Craft Workers "ON-CALL".
NOTE RE TSD “CALL OUT” SERVICE: All maintenance requests to the Switchboard that necessitate the attendance of a Craft Worker “ON CALL” should normally only be made via and with the prior approval, of the most senior Site Manager/ Person in charge, on duty, in your Hospital/location at the time.
