Dental Services for Children
There are no walk in dental emergency clinics operating at this time. Emergency treatment is available:
- To all children up the eve of their 16th birthday.
- At any HSE dental clinic open on the day. Parents / guardians must telephone their local clinic or 01 7956146 by 9.15 am to register the patient. They will then be advised which clinic to attend. Please telephone first, but be available to attend straight away.
- It may not be possible to respond on the same day to calls received later than 9.15 am.
- The definition of urgent dental care includes uncontrolled bleeding, severe pain, trauma, abnormal tissue, abscess and swelling.
Currently, children in 6th classes and 2nd classes are prioritised for dental appointments. Children attend for a dental check-up and follow up appointments will be made if required. Children outside of these classes will only be seen for emergency treatment. Appointments may be offered in any clinic in the area depending on staff availability.
Appointments are on weekdays and will usually be during school hours.
Dental Services for Adults
Dental Services for adults with medical cards are available from dentists who have contracts with the HSE to provide dental treatment through the Dental Treatment Services Scheme (DTSS). Further information and lists of contracted dentists are available at HSE dental clinics or by calling 01 795 8163.
Adults with special needs may be assessed in residential or day centres, with follow up treatment provided in HSE clinics or by DTSS dentists.
Adults 16 years of age and over, with special needs requiring significant support due to a disability and where it is not possible for their routine care to be provided by a General Dental Practitioner, may attend the HSE dental clinic by appointment.
