National Ambulance Service

The National Ambulance Service is the statutory pre-hospital emergency and intermediate care provider for the State. In the Dublin metropolitan area, ambulance services are provided by the NAS and Dublin Fire Brigade.

The mission of the National Ambulance Service is to serve the needs of patients and the public as part of an integrated health system, through the provision of high quality, safe and patient-centred services.  This care begins immediately at the time that the emergency call is received, continues through to the safe treatment, transportation and handover of the patient to the clinical team at the receiving hospital or emergency department.

Restart a Heart 2017

The annual Restart a Heart initiative was founded by the European Resuscitation Council with the support of the European Parliament and is designed to raise awareness about out-of-hospital cardiac arrest (OHCA) and to improve public knowledge about resuscitation, most particularly cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR).

What's happening in the HSE?

This year on Wednesday 18th October, the National Ambulance service will host CPR familiarisation sessions for HSE staff in locations across the country. During each minute session will hear a recording of a 112/999 emergency call, a CPR demonstration and - most importantly - a chance for you to have a go at CPR and have your questions about emergency calls answered. Sessions will be hosted by National Ambulance Service staff, HSE Resuscitation Training Officers and Community First Responders. During the week, public awareness and CPR training sessions will also be offered.

How can I book?

If you want to learn how to save a life, join a session at any of our 12 locations. Each session will last for only 20-30 minutes. Even if you're CPR trained, please come along and test your CPR skills, as practice makes perfect! Click here to book a place.

What else is happening nationwide?
