HSE launch two Primary Care Teams for Greystones

Mr. Gerry O Dwyer, Regional Director of Operations for HSE Dublin Mid-Leinster launched the two new Primary Care Teams for Greystones today, Wednesday 25th November.

Mr. Gerry O Dwyer welcomed this new milestone in Health Services in Co. Wicklow stating that

“The new Primary Care Teams will provide easier access and better healthcare outcomes to the local community and will work as a building block for further existing developments for the area.”

Complementing the work of the local HSE staff & GP’s, Mr. O Dwyer outlined the extended range of integrated services that is available including Community Nursing, Physiotherapy, Occupational Therapy, Home Help, dietetics, social work, Speech & Language Therapy, Psychology Services, Adult Mental Health and Dental which coupled with excellent GP’s services provides Greystones and the surrounding areas with a very comprehensive service.  These services are supported by a wide range of voluntary services which work closely with local staff.

The 2 Greystones Primary Care teams will serve the population of 15,297 (2006 census) and cover the electoral divisions of Greystones & Delgany including the townlands of Charlesland & Eden Gate.

All services will be provided on an enrolled team basis with the individual patient’s care plan tailored to their health needs. The 2 Primary Care Teams will enable patients to access services more readily with the added focus on more disease prevention, rehabilitation & personal social services.

The 2 Greystones Primary Care Teams will endeavour to ensure that patient’s receive services as close to home as possible from a team of professionals working together in the community environment. The teams will demonstrate that the localised delivery of services is the most effective and logical way of ensuring that our communities get top quality prompt & appropriate medical & social care services.

The proposed new primary care centre which is in the process of planning and development will support the delivery of local enhanced services.

Speaking at the launch, Mr. O’Dwyer said “The local community will see at first hand, the developments and new ways of working between HSE staff, core team voluntary groups’ & local GP practices.”

“There has been a huge amount of work invested in this initiative by all of the professionals on the team and by the local health office staff,” he added.

The teams are one of 530 that will be established over the next 3 years as part of our Health Services Transformation Programme.  The 2 enrolled teams and their work will show that real progress is being made and delivered to the people that matter most, our patients.
