A one-day conference to mark the centennial year of the death of Florence Nightingale and the International Year of Nursing took place in Dublin Castle, September 7th.
The event, organised by the Department of Health and Children, the HSE and the Irish Nurses and Midwives Organisation (INMO) gave nurses and midwives from throughout Ireland the opportunity to celebrate the valuable contribution of Irish nurse and midwives to health care over the past century.

An Taoiseach, Brian Cowen TD launched the most recent audit report of the Midland Diabetes Structured Care Programme, Monday 6th September.
The HSE Midland Diabetes Structured Care Programme is a primary care based programme dedicated to improving the quality of care for patients with Diabetes, mainly those with Type 2 Diabetes. The audit report concentrates on a sample of 1,071 diabetes patients taken from the cohort of 3,700 patients who are attending the 30 general practices in the counties of Laois, Offaly, Longford and Westmeath that are enrolled in the Programme.

The Department of Public Health, HSE South can confirm that the investigation of a TB outbreak at a primary school in Cork city is progressing, with well over half of the school population now screened. The investigation is being coordinated by an outbreak control team. School management is liaising closely with the investigating team. Parents and staff are being kept updated, as well as general practitioners in the area.
