In 2006, the National Advocacy Programme Alliance, alternatively known as NAPA was established by HSE Consumer Affairs to address the needs of older people in residential care. Membership of the National Advocacy Programme Alliance include:
The National Advocacy Programme Alliance, (NAPA) has received funding for its work from the Health Services National Partnership Forum (HSNPF) and from the HSE’s Innovation Fund.
NAPA has developed a number of proposals designed to assist older people and their families as users of continuing care and to contribute significantly to the transformation of residential care.
The three proposals identified by NAPA are:
- Development of an Independent Advocacy Service
- Values Training for Care Workers and
- Provision of Information via My Home From Home website
The principle aim of My Home from Home website is to provide access to joined up, user friendly, information and a customer focus consistent with an individual's needs.
In particular, comparative information on public and private long-stay residential care services was needed to assist older people, their families and carers when faced with the need to find and select a long-stay home.
Decision making by prospective residents would be limited without information on nursing homes who pro- actively seek to enhance the quality of care they provide and to improve the quality of life of their residents.
This web page is an ideal medium to inform prospective residents of the facilities, the services provided and the good practices actively pursued in different nursing homes throughout the country.
