National Lead NCHD/NDTP Fellows

Dr Seán Casey

Sean-Casey

Hi! Seán here, one of your current National Lead NCHD Fellows for 2023-2024. I’m excited to oversee the Lead NCHD programme for the coming year, and to represent our NCHDs at the highest level of our healthcare system. I have extensive first-hand experience of life as an NCHD in Ireland, having completed all of my medical training to date here. I received my CSCST in Paediatrics in July 2023 and am now completing further training in Paediatric Emergency Medicine.

Recognising the challenges we face as NCHDs in Ireland, I co-created and chaired the RCPI Health & Wellbeing Committee (2019-2023) and the National Committee for Health & Wellbeing of Doctors in Ireland (2021- present). This enabled me to develop resources and supports to help our doctors, and also provided exposure to strategy development and execution. This skillset was further honed during my year as RCPI PwC Healthcare Consulting Fellow 2022-2023.

All of the above naturally align with the strategic objectives of NDTP and the Lead NCHD programme. Creating a sustainable NCHD workforce is now recognised as a key priority for the HSE, and engagement with frontline NCHDs is central to this. Your voice matters and it deserves to be heard. If you would like to be a part of this change, please consider getting involved with your local Lead NCHD committee. If you wish to contact me directly, please do so via nl.nchd@hse.ie, LinkedIn, or Twitter.

Dr Daniel Creegan

Daniel-Creegan-(3)

Hi all, Daniel Creegan here. Delighted and excited to represent the NCHD voice within NDTP and the HSE. I studied Medicine in RCSI, graduating in 2017. My favourite year was third year, serving as Events Officer of the Student’s Union.

I am currently a Cardiology Specialist Registrar, working in Connolly Hospital, Blanchardstown. I have always had a strong interest in Healthcare Management, having held a number of Leadership positions including the role of Lead NCHD in Letterkenny University Hospital.  At a time when recruitment and retention of doctors is a national priority, I am keen and eager to give NCHDs a voice at the table.

I also have a keen interest in Medical Education and am an Honorary Clinical Lecturer in RCSI. I have been actively involved in a number of key educational projects including a curriculum design project in RCSI. In addition, I am an active member of the Irish Medical Council Education and Training Committee and the Preliminary Proceedings Committee.

I have a Master’s Degree in Healthcare Ethics and Law and am currently completing a Diploma in Legal Studies in The King’s Inns. Outside of Medicine, I am also interested in International Relations and completed a course in Civil-Military Relations with the Irish United Nations Training School.

Having experienced both the positives and negatives of working as a doctor in Ireland, I am really looking forward to working with Sean to shape a better future for NCHDs in Ireland. If you have any ideas or concerns I would really love to hear from (nl.nchd@hse.ie / daniel.creegan2@hse.ie )
