Peamount is an independent voluntary organisation that provides health and social care services within the area of chronic disease management to the community of Dublin Mid Leinster in partnership with the Health Service Executive, to persons over the age of 18 years.
Consultants – Professor Stephen Lane; Dr. Eddie Moloney: Peamount’s Respiratory Department comprises 25 inpatient beds, an out-patient department, OPD clinics three times a week, an out patient Pulmonary Rehabilitation Programme and a Pulmonary Function Laboratory.
Patients are admitted under the following cohorts: Active In-Patient Respiratory Care; Sleep Diagnosis & Treatment; Chronic Lung Infections; Chronic Hypoventilatory Respiratory Failure (CHRF).
Out Patients Department: Health promotion, health education, general assessment, treatment and management of patients with respiratory disease are provided in 3 weekly clinics – Sleep & Ventilatory Clinic (Monday pm); COPD Clinic (Wednesday pm); Asthma/Allergy Clinic (Friday midday). All clinics are consultant led. Peamount’s outpatient strategy is to focus on areas where they can be most effective in influencing the health care needs of as wide a population as possible.
Age Related Services: Consultants – Dr. Tara Coughlan, Dr. Rónán Collins: Age-related services at Peamount offer a range of health and social care services for adults of 65 years and older. The services comprise Rehabilitation, Continuing Care and Respite.
Rehabilitation Services: The service comprises 25 in-patient beds for both male and female clients. Currently, rehabilitation places are allocated to patients from all acute Dublin/Kildare hospitals. All clients must be referred by a Consultant Geriatrician.
Continuing Care Services: Continuing care services aim to provide an environment that promotes person-centred care and values that include respect for individuality, privacy, dignity and independence. Continuing care services are offered for both male and female clients across two units, each having 24 continuing care beds.
Respite services: Peamount currently has two respite beds, one male and one female. All application forms for respite admissions must to be completed by the Public Health Nurse and the General Practitioner and forwarded to the relevant ward in Peamount.
Services within Respiratory and Age Related Health Care are provided by a multi-disciplinary team from the areas of Medicine, Nursing, Physiotherapy, Speech & Language and Audiology Services, Occupational Therapy, Nutrition & Dietetics, Clinical Pharmacy, Social Work and outpatient therapy services.
Neurological Disability Services: Consultant – Dr. Jacinta McElligott; Peamount’s Neurological Disability Service consists of 22 continuing care beds. This unit, St. Bríd’s, caters for individuals who are under 65 years with acquired brain injuries or progressive neurological illnesses.
Description of Services Provided: Peamount’s philosophy of care is a holistic, client-centred, inter-disciplinary approach. It is led by a rehabilitation consultant, Dr. Jacinta McElligott, together with members of the multi-disciplinary team from the areas of; Nursing, Occupational Therapy, Physiotherapy, Speech & Language & Audiology, Nutrition & Dietetics, Clinical Pharmacy and Social Work. Peamount promotes the enablement and empowerment of the resident and their family to achieve optimum potential.
