Voluntary Redundancy and Early Retirement Schemes

Following a Government decision, on November 1st the HSE introduced two new schemes aimed at effecting a reduction in staffing numbers in the Health Service. They include a Voluntary Early Retirement Scheme targeted at staff aged over 50 years of age, and a Voluntary Severance Scheme targeted at management, administrative and support staff grades.

The deadlines for receipt of applications for the scheme was midnight on November 19th 2010 and has now passed. Final offers of benefit are currently being generated for all applicants, which will allow them to make a formal decision to apply or withdraw.

The 3rd of December was the deadline for withdrawal of an application from the Exit Schemes.   At this stage, some applicants may prefer to wait until they have received their final offer, before deciding to withdraw or to go ahead.

These applicants will not be disadvantaged by staying within the process until they get their final offer, and they will be given the option to accept that final offer or to refuse it within a reasonable timeframe over the period from Dec 3 to Dec 13th.

Employees will be expected to end their service by December 30th 2010.
