Research in the area of suicide prevention

The National Office for Suicide Prevention (NOSP) is committed to supporting research in the areas of suicide research/ prevention and mental health promotion. Ireland's suicide prevention strategy, Connecting for Life, takes an evidence-informed approach to suicide prevention, to ensure the proposed aims, objectives and interventions deliver real and measurable benefits in a cost-efficient way.

Grant Scheme for Collaborative Research Projects (2021-2022)

The HSE National Office for Suicide Prevention (NOSP) introduced its first grant scheme for collaborative research projects on priority groups in Ireland, at the end of 2020. The purpose of the scheme is to;

  • Further understanding of the groups that are at increased risk for self-harm and suicide
  • Promote and support collaborative research projects between researchers and services working in the area of suicide prevention in Ireland.

In 2021, successful projects were summarised in the HSE NOSP Grant Scheme for Collaborative Research Projects Book of Abstracts. In 2023, a range of briefing papers associated with 11 of the projects, were also published.
