Human Resources:

The Health Services are the largest employer in the state, with over 100,000 employees.  More than 67,000 of these employees are directly employed by the HSE, with the remainder being employed by agencies funded by the HSE.  Our staff play a vital role in addressing the many challenges in delivering health services across all settings in communities, hospitals and healthcare facilities.  National HR is committed to engaging, developing and valuing our workforce to deliver the best possible care and services to the people who depend on them. We know from evidence that staff who are valued, supported in their development and treated well improve patient care and overall performance.

Our vision for healthcare as set out in the Corporate Plan, 2015 - 2017 is to put people at the heart of everything we do - we are committed to delivering high-quality safe healthcare to our service users, communities and the wider population. National HR has developed a Health Services People Strategy 2015-2017, Leaders in People Services which provides a cohesive framework to lead, manage and develop the contribution of all staff in an environment that is conducive to learning and wellbeing. It is also focused on the future needs of the service to meet the workforce demands to attract and retain high calibre staff.

  • Pay Scales:      The rates of pay, allowances and other pay-related conditions for HSE employees are as approved by the Department of Health. These pay rates are referred to as the Consolidated Payscales. The Department of Health issue new pay-scales to reflect changes as they arise.  The payscales set out the rates of pay for each grade and include incremental progression where applicable. Most HSE salaries are incremental and the number of increments is determined by the particular grade of the employee.  Get information on pay.

  • HR Forms:       A number of standardised HR Forms have now been developed for use by employees and these can be downloaded here.
  • Pension Estimator:      The Pension Estimator allows staff to calculate an estimate of pension benefits by entering details of service, salary, projected retirement date and work pattern from now to retirement.
