HSE Award for rapid homeless COVID-19 testing innovation

The great work that is happening every day across the health service was recently showcased and celebrated at the annual Health Service Excellence Awards.

Designed to encourage and inspire people to develop better health services, the awards also promote shared learning for other teams through awards success stories. Some examples of this year’s winning projects include teams who have provided COVID-19 testing in homeless services, QUIT smoking services for pregnant women, and sexual health promotion for students.

Speaking at the award ceremony, HSE HR National Director Anne Marie Hoey noted that, “the entries to this year’s awards demonstrate an integrated approach, using innovative practices, systems or technologies which are delivering enhanced services provision.  The projects also show the collaboration aspects of teams working together and sharing knowledge and experience, problem-solving and decision making.”

Great examples

Minister for Health, Stephen Donnelly, TD, added that “the projects shortlisted and the category winners of the annual HSE Excellence Awards are great examples of the work that happens every day across our health service. Congratulations to all involved and many thanks for your commitment to improving services in both a patient-centred, innovative way.”

Winners in the “Improving Patient Experience” were from HSE Community Healthcare Dublin North City and County Social Inclusion (Homeless Services) and Ana Liffey Project for their project titled ‘Rapid COVID-19 LAMP testing in Dublin Homeless Services’.  The category is designed for projects that demonstrate how a service was improved for service users.
