"This new ambulance station will be a great asset to the town of Mullingar and surrounding areas,” according to Robert Morton, Director of the HSE National Ambulance Service, speaking as the Minister for Health Stephen Donnelly TD officially opened the new facility in recent days. He continued: “I very much welcome this development - the facility is an important one and will assist the National Ambulance Service (NAS) to fulfil its mission to provide high-quality, safe and patient-centred services.
Mr Morton added that “care begins immediately at the time an emergency call is received. It continues through to the safe treatment of the patient and then on through to the transportation and handover of the patient to the clinical team at the receiving Emergency Department if required.
“I have no doubt that this new ambulance station will be important in helping us to achieve our ultimate aim of improving patient outcomes whilst ensuring appropriate care delivery. I would like to wish every success to the NAS crews based in Mullingar and I want to add my thanks to everyone who helped to bring this new station to fruition.”
"I want to reiterate my thanks to them for the vital work they carry out every day - and night - of the year, and for their unwavering commitment to the highest standards of patient care."

Speaking at the opening, the Minister for Health praised NAS crews across the country: “We all depend on them to deliver an essential frontline emergency service and we will never forget the pivotal role they played over the last three years in delivering the HSE’s COVID-19 pandemic response.
"Despite significant increases in demand for emergency services in recent years, NAS staff have continued to rise to meet this demand. I want to reiterate my thanks to them for the vital work they carry out every day - and night - of the year, and for their unwavering commitment to the highest standards of patient care.”
New ambulance building Construction of the new single-pitch ambulance building, which replaced the old station, commenced in May 2021 and was completed in June 2022. The station is designed to accommodate 28 staff and allows for swift access and exit from the site. It also includes accommodation and training facilities, a reflection and study room for staff, and indoor bays for duty crews.
Mr Morton concluded that “the investment in this modern facility reflects a wider commitment by the HSE and NAS to providing optimal pre-hospital care to communities across the country and to providing appropriate facilities to ambulance crews.”
