Tuesday, 5th May celebrates International Day of the Midwife 2020. With more than 2,224 births so far this year in the Coombe Women & Infants University Hospital and Portlaoise Hospital, it is very clear that despite all the challenges presented by Covid-19, services are still being delivered at a very high standard. Indeed some services are being restructured through excellent innovations so much so that we would hope to see these innovations continued beyond Covid-19. The restructuring has ensured retention of safe and engaging services. We acknowledge your unrelenting commitment to a compassionate and caring, contribution to safe quality woman-centered care.
To mark the day, Midland Regional Hospital Portlaoise are discussing these great examples of excellence and innovation.
International Day of the Midwife is an annual global celebratory event celebrating the important role of the midwife worldwide, the essential care they provide to mothers, newborns and their crucial role in reducing maternal and neonatal mortality and morbidity.
Happy International Day of the Midwife to all our midwives, student midwives, maternity healthcare workers.
