Progress to Date

  • The Model of Care was published in January 2018 in collaboration with the College of Psychiatrists of Ireland and Bodywhys;
  • The three initial funded teams are in place since 2018/2019 and delivering community based specialist eating disorder services: 2 CAMHS teams and 1 Adult Team;
  • Funding for 3 further teams has been approved in 2021 and recruitment in process: 2 additional Adult Teams and a third CAMHS team;
  • Quality in Practice Guidelines for Eating Disorders with the ICGP have been developed collaboratively and published in March 2021 during Eating Disorders Awareness Week;
  • The Eating Disorders Self Care and Information App (https://ncped.selfcareapp.mobi) was launched in March 2020 which provides valuable information for those with or people caring for someone with an eating disorder. This is a collaborative development between HSE National Clinical Programme for Eating Disorders and Bodywhys, the Eating Disorders Association of Ireland. During its first year the App offers regular monthly updates with over 100,000 page views;
  • A CPD supervision network for Family Based Treatment (FBT) for Anorexia Nervosa in under 18’s has been established with annual update seminar;
  • A CPD supervision network for CBT-E for has been established with annual update seminar and a CAMHS CBT-E supervision group commenced in 2020;
  • MARSIPAN Training Days attended by over 200 clinicians across mental health, acute hospital and primary care services;
  • The NCPED works closely with Bodywhys - the national organisation for eating disorders. Families and people with eating disorders are referred to their website www.bodywhys.ie. Their PiLAR programme had a formal funded evaluation in collaboration with UCD in 2018. The programme moved to online platform in 2020 with significant increases in access numbers;
  • Bi-Annual NCPED Network Days are held for ED specialist hub team development: most recently November 2020 and March 2021;
  • CBT-E and FBT CPD Network Events are scheduled to take in May and Autumn 2021;
  • Inter-professional training for evidence based treatments is regularly supported and delivered, e.g. FBT/FT-AN, MANTRA, CBT-E. 5 clinicians have achieved FBT accreditation.
