What is Steps to Health?
Steps to Health is a five week challenge that prompts and supports staff to walk more at work and during their leisure time. The Challenge aims to get you walking and counting your steps daily. You can accumulate steps in many ways, such as taking the stairs instead of the lift and walking during your break and after work. You will soon build up to 10,000 steps a day, which is the recommended number of steps for health benefits.
The aim is to work towards taking 10,000 steps daily - the equivalent of eight kilometres or five miles. Most of us will take between 3,000 to 5,000 steps daily and we challenge you to make up the extra steps during your day so that you reach the goal of 10,000 steps. It might just take longer for those of us who are inactive at present. You can break up the steps into ten minute walks at a time and still get the health benefits. Steps to Health is for everyone, regardless of your fitness or ability levels. Aim to increase your step count on a daily basis. Remember, every step counts!
