Launch of the inaugural Clinical Director Executive Skills Programme, 29th November 2017, No.26, RCSI
The first formal education programme in Ireland for Clinical Directors and Consultants aspiring to undertake such leadership roles in healthcare was officially launched on Wednesday 29th November in the RCSI by Mr. Tony O’Brien, Director General, HSE.
Prof John Hyland, President of RCSI proudly welcomed the invited guests and programme participants to the Prof Boucher Hayes Auditorium in the new RCSI building, No.26, York Street. The launch was supported by Dr. Philip Crowley, National Director, Quality Improvement Division, Prof Paddy Broe, Chief Clinical Director, RCSI Hospital Group, Dr. Julie McCarthy, National Clinical Lead, CD programme and Prof Ciaran O’Boyle, Director of Institute of Leadership, RCSI, kick started module one with a discussion on leadership paradigms. The training programme is funded by the Quality Improvement Division, HSE, under the direction of Dr Philip Crowley and is delivered by the Institute of Leadership, RCSI. It extends to acute hospital clinical leaders, those in mental health service, providing a unique opportunity to gather senior clinical leaders together and provide a platform for networking across boundaries in an educational setting.
It is co-designed with the participating clinical directors to meet the bespoke needs to fulfil the executive function and leadership roles towards improved services and better patient outcomes. Furthermore, the new Clinical Director Executive Skills Programme is in line with the health system reform agenda for the citizens of Ireland and meets recommendations of the Joint Oireachtas Report on Future Health.
