Word Patient Safety Day All Ireland Tweet Chat, 17th September, 2019 9:00 p.m. 

On the first-ever World Patient Safety Day on 17th September 2019, the World Health Organisation will launch a global campaign to create awareness of patient safety and urge people to show their commitment to making healthcare safer. The Annette J. Bartley Memorial Scholarship  - Closing Date Friday, 13th September,2019, by 5:00 pm

IHI will award the Annette J. Bartley Memorial Scholarship annually to one nursing professional who demonstrates a strong interest in health care improvement. The scholarship will cover the cost of General Conference fees for IHI’s National Annual National Forum on Quality Improvement in Health Care. This year, the 31st annual event, takes place in Orlando, Florida from December 8-11, 2019 In addition, the scholarship will provide the winner with up to $1,000 for travel, four nights’ lodging, or other Forum expenditures.

Eligibility: Any current nursing professional may apply for the Annette J. Bartley Memorial Scholarship.

Requirements: Annette played an important role in helping IHI close the gap between current practice and best practice. In this spirit, we invite you, the scholarship applicant, to complete an essay that describes a health care quality improvement project you would like to undertake or have undertaken. In no more than 500 words, your essay should describe a problem in current care and detail how your project would address it. Please include who you would (or did) engage to help develop your goals and your plans for implementation, and how you will know if the changes tested in your project would lead (or led) to the desired improvement. We will judge essays, first, on the project’s potential to improve patient care and, second, on the clarity of the writing. Please send your essay (one per person) in a Word file (not a PDF) and exclude any graphs or charts.

Deadline: Please send your essay to Mahesh Panwar at with the subject line “Annette J. Bartley Scholarship application” no later than Friday, September 13, 2019, by 5:00 PM Eastern Time. We will notify the winner by Friday, October 4, 2019.
