Séan Treacy urges healthcare workers to get their flu vaccine

A former Galway Hurling All-Star shared his near death experience in an effort to highlight the dangers of flu. Séan Treacy and his wife Geraldine from Portumna recall the devastating events which lead to Sean spending 10 days in an induced coma following multi-organ failure after he contracted a strain of influenza in 2013.

Séan's video was devised by the Dublin Midlands Hospital Group to raise awareness of the benefits of being vaccinated especially if you are a healthcare worker.

We recommend that everyone working in a healthcare setting gets the flu vaccine including:

  • medical, nursing and allied health professionals including those working in residential disability services
  • medical, nursing and allied health students
  • dental personnel
  • hospital porters and cleaners
  • ambulance personnel
  • carers and home helps
  • all GP practice staff
  • agency staff who fall into the above categories.

The vaccine is available from your GP, Pharmacy or Occupational Health Department. If you have a ‘Medical Card’ or ‘GP Visit Card’ the vaccine and consultation are free. If you do not have a ‘Medical Card’ or ‘GP Visit Card’ the flu vaccine is free but you will be charged a consultation fee.

Don't delay make your appointment today.
