Lifestyle Management

According to the American Diabetes Association (ADA), (2017) lifestyle management is a fundamental part of diabetes care. It includes diabetes self management education programmes, nutrition therapy, weight management, physical activity, alcohol, tobacco cessation and psychosocial issues e.g. attitude towards diabetes, diabetes distress and depression. Lifestyle management needs to be part of initial education on diagnosis, continued at every review and conducted as part of screening for diabetes complications (1).

The following sections provide local information regarding each aspect of lifestyle management.
