What is it?
The Dublin South Primary Care Psychology Service offers a monthly advice clinic to parents or carers who wish to seek advice from a Clinical Psychologist with regard to any aspect of parenting. The types of concerns that are typically discussed include dealing with behavioural issues, helping children to deal with worry or grief or challenges in life. Parents also come with questions about whether or not they should be concerned about a child’s development and if they should seek a referral to a particular service.
Where and when is it held?
The Clinic is held in Loughlinstown Health Centre (phone: 01-2822122) on the 2nd Tuesday of every month from 9.30am to 12.00pm. Phone in advance to ensure the clinic is running on a specific week.
How does it work?
Parents/carer’s attend the clinic without children. This allows for an honest, open discussion with the Psychologist. As it is a Drop-In Clinic no appointment is necessary. It operates on a first come, first served basis. Each clinic has 4 slots of 30 minutes in which the Clinical Psychologist can meet with parents on a one-to one basis. Parents will not be expected to discuss concerns with other parents/carers.
What do I need to do?
When you arrive, let the receptionist know that you wish to attend the Advice Clinic. You will be given an envelope with short form that will ask you for basic information about the question or worry that brings you to the clinic. The form is intended for the Psychologist. If you can fill it in, it will be helpful, but if you cannot that is not a problem.
You will be told what slot you have been given (or if the slots are gone, you will be asked to come back the following week).
You will be offered a seat and then called in turn to meet the Psychologist.
In the meeting with the Psychologist, you will discuss your worry or question and you will be offered advice and perhaps given some written suggestions on how best to deal with it.
You can come back to the advice clinic as often as you like.
Drop in clinic appointments are usually offered by Dr Yvonne Quinn and Dr Evelynne Diamond. If you would like more information please contact Loughlinstown Health Centre Tel: 01-2822122
