Funding from the European Union's INTERRREG IVA programme has enabled the HSE to establish a sexual health Genito Urinary Clinic (GUM) in Louth County Hospital. This means that anybody concerned about their sexual health will now have access to a locally-based GUM service in the Louth area. The EU funding for this new service was secured by Co-operation and Working Together (CAWT), the cross border health services partnership, in which the HSE is a partner.
The first new GUM clinic, for the Louth area of the HSE, commenced on Friday 17th February 2012 . The service operates on a Friday afternoon each week between 1.30pm – 5.00pm , in the Out-Patient Department of Louth County Hospital, Dundalk . Members of the public will be able to secure an appointment by referral from a GP or other healthcare professional/department e.g. a family planning clinic or gynecological clinic or by making contact with the clinic directly. The telephone number for making appointments for the clinic is 0868241847 between 9am and 5pm Monday to Friday.
Services which are provided at the new GUM clinic include:
- Rapid access to specialist diagnostic, preventative and curative services to people with sexually transmitted infections.
- Urgent advice to people who are pregnant with sexually transmitted infections.
- Advisory services in the area of sexually transmitted infections.
