The National Transport Authority (NTA) has announced that two new urban-style bus routes will begin serving the city on Wednesday, 18 December 2019.

The bus service has a stop at McDonagh Junction Station for anyone travelling to and from Carlow and St Luke's General Hospital has two bus stops; one across the road from the old Front Entrance and the second stop is located at the North Entrance.

Timetable and route information can be found at https://www.transportforireland.ie/kilkenny-city-services/

Routes KK1 and KK2 will be operated by City Direct, as part of the Transport for Ireland public transport network. The two-route city network consisting of 64 stops is fully funded by the National Transport Authority.

Route KK1 runs from Loughboy Retail Park to the N77 Roundabout, and serves Upper Patrick Street, McDonagh Junction, and Castlecomer Road.

All bus stops are newly paved with Kassel kerbs, installed to facilitate wheelchair access to the low-floor buses and will provide passengers with information at each stop.
