Please see the list below for information on the types of injury the local injury unit can treat.

Patients with this type of injury can be referred by their doctor or can visit the Unit without a referral.

Patients who require further investigation or treatment may be referred to University Hospital Limerick.

lij can treatMinor facial injuries including injuries to the mouth, teeth or nose

lij can treatSplinters and fish hooks

lij can treatForeign bodies in eyes / ears / nose

lij can treatMinor head injury (fully conscious patients) who did NOT experience loss of consciousness or have more than one episode of vomiting after the head injury

lij cannot treatCHILDREN UNDER 5 YEARS OF AGE

lij cannot treatConditions due to medical illness (chest pain / respiratory conditions will be seen in the Medical Assessment Unit)
