About the Cancer Information and Support Centre

Cancer Information and Support Centre

The National Cancer Strategy 1996 recognised that appropriate treatment spans the full range of interventions to early detection, from treatment to palliation. “This involves carrying out appropriate clinical and other investigations, providing for complications arising from the disease and treatment and offering appropriate emotional, social and psychological support for patients and families”

The provision of a Patient Support Centre was an integral part of our development plan and has been since the Regional Cancer Services began. Services provided compliment the clinical and medical treatment received by patients e.g. psychological and complementary therapies.

The Cancer Information and Support Centre is located on the grounds of University Hospital Limerick, adjacent to the Mid-Western Cancer Centre. This facility was made possible through the generosity of the UL Hospitals Development Trust, MWRH, Irish Cancer Society and donations to the Department of Medical Oncology.

The Centre provides patients and their families, information, support and complementary services in a quiet and peaceful environment.
