Evaluation Studies

In 2017, the National Office for Suicide Prevention Research and Evaluation Team conducted pilot evaluations of HSE-funded suicide prevention and self-harm awareness training programmes. The following data dashboards provide information on the aims and outcomes of these evaluations. 

Pilot Evaluation of LivingWorks Start (Online) Training

September 2020

This pilot study sought to assess potential changes in participants’ knowledge, understanding, and attitudes towards suicide and suicide prevention following participation in the LivingWorks Start online training programme. A total of 161 participants in Ireland took part in the pilot study.

Pilot Evaluation of ASIST Training

December 2017

This pilot study sought to assess potential changes in participants’ knowledge, understanding, and attitudes towards suicide and suicide prevention following participation in the ASIST training workshop. A review of the literature identified standardised questionnaires that could be used to assess these changes. A total of 66 participants from two locations in Ireland took part in the pilot study.

Pilot Evaluation of safeTALK Training

October 2017

This pilot study sought to assess potential changes in participants’ attitudes towards suicide and suicide prevention following participation in the safeTALK training workshop. A review of the literature identified standardised questionnaires that could be used to assess these changes. A total of 89 participants from five locations in Ireland took part in the pilot study.

Pilot Evaluation of Understanding Self-harm Training

October 2017

This pilot study sought to assess potential changes in participants’ attitudes and knowledge towards self-harm following participation in the Understanding Self-Harm training workshop. A review of the literature identified standardised questionnaires that could be used to assess these changes. A total of 59 participants from three locations in Ireland took part in the pilot study.
