Who we are and what we do

National DBT Project Office

What is the National DBT Project?
The principal aim of the National DBT Project is to train new DBT teams across the country. In addition to this we will train therapists to join existing DBT teams and produce high quality research focussing on the implementation, evaluation and a cost/benefit analysis of DBT in Ireland.

Rationale behind National Project
Following the success of the implementation and evaluation of DBT in Cork (the Endeavour Project), the National Office for Suicide Prevention (NOSP)in consultation with the North Lee Adult Mental Health Team, explored how best to coordinate DBT training in Ireland, whilst ensuring effective governance and targeting of resources. The National DBT Project Office was thus established in June 2013 to offer solutions, in particular to:

  • support the administration of a national roll out of DBT and allied intervention programmes
  • ensure continued research focussing on effectiveness and cost/benefit of training
  • ensure service users meaningful involvement in DBT and allied intervention programmes

A national steering committee was established to oversee the implementation and evaluation of the project.
