Under the Nursing Home Support Scheme (NHSS), the weekly cost of care for private and voluntary nursing homes is published following agreement with the National Treatment Purchase Fund.
These costs are the service providers operating costs for providing care in these centres and not the amount the person applying for long term residential care will contribute towards their care.
Under the NHSS, a person’s financial assessment will determine their level of contribution towards their long term care costs. The State pays the balance.
The person’s contribution is the same regardless of whether they choose to live in a public, private or voluntary centre even if the costs vary from one centre to another.
