The physiotherapy service aims to support patients in the community to be as independently and functionally safe as possible. The service is provided either in the clinic or home setting as appropriate. Physiotherapy staff can help with specific problems such as muscle and joint injury, back pain with chest conditions and any problems that affect balance or mobility.
The main focus of the physiotherapist is to reduce pain and correct dysfunction and injury. By identifying the factors that led to the problem in the first place, the physiotherapist can advise on how to avoid recurrence of the problem in the future. The physiotherapist will also estimate the number and frequency of treatments needed and outline what to do at home and/or work to help speed up recovery. Referrals to the physiotherapy service are made through your GP or Hospital Consultant.
