Special Care Baby Unit
Emily Ward is the Special Care Baby Unit and is situated on the second floor. There are many reasons why a newborn baby is admitted to Emily Ward. Some babies are born prematurely and need specialised care, observations and monitoring of health problems.
Family-centred care is an integral part of our philosophy, so parents are encouraged to be part of caring for baby from admission. This can be a very stressful and worrying time, so please feel free to ask any questions you may have at any time. Parents are encouraged to bring clothes and nappies for their baby’s use. Sometimes babies need to be transferred to other hospitals for other treatment. The length of stay is dependent on the baby’s condition. Visiting Emily Ward is restricted to parents, grandparents and siblings of baby, no other visitors allowed. Only two visitors at a time.
