Older Persons Services shortlisted for finals of the Health Service Excellence Awards 2022 “In Engaging a Digital Solution to Provide a Better Service” category
An electronic patient recording system being used in Older Persons Services in Donegal has led to the service being shortlisted for the finals of the Health Service Excellence Awards 2022.
The service has been nominated under the “In Engaging a Digital Solution to Provide a Better Service” category for its use of the Carenotes system.
Carenotes is a Quality Digital Electronic Patient Recording System developed by Nurses for Nurses, currently used across all Community Healthcare Cavan, Donegal, Leitrim, Monaghan, Sligo Community Hospitals for Older Persons in Donegal. Intellectual Disability Services (IDS) in Inishowen and South Donegal.
The system, currently being used by 500 staff in the Donegal area, promotes patient and staff quality and safety as it is based on HIQA Older Persons Services Standards for Person-Centered Care, NMPDU Metrics and local Policies, Procedure, Protocols and Guidelines.
Carenotes is person-centered and follows the Nursing Process steps (Assess, Plan, Implement, Evaluate). The ultimate beneficiary from system use, is the client, who will benefit from safer, better healthcare, in a timely manner. Time previously spent on assessment and documentation is released to direct care provision.
Carenotes is cloud-based, in line with National OoCIO policy. It reduces carbon footprint as more assessments are built online, reducing the use of paper. Further development will lead to the autogeneration of audits and complex reports required in modern healthcare, reducing the burden on staff. HSE staff can build and amend simple assessments on a cost-neutral basis.
General Manager for Older Persons Services, HSE, Community Healthcare Cavan, Donegal, Leitrim, Monaghan, Sligo (CH CDLMS) Martin Collum said “I would like to acknowledge those staff involved in the development of the Carenotes Project and to take this opportunity to congratulate them on being shortlisted for the finals of the Health Service Excellent awards 2022.
